Detection of buried networks

The challenges

Despite all the precautions of operators and construction companies, the gas distribution and transmission networks are susceptible to incidents affecting buried pipelines, including pulling up during trenching. The challenge of buried network detection is to prevent accidents through accurate knowledge of the location of networks.

Our competencies
Our study and test means

RICE has designed a testing platform to test the devices for detecting and identifying buried structures. Unique in Europe, this geodetection testing area comprises 5 different soil types:

  • Natural gravel
  • Plant soil
  • Limestone
  • Clay
  • Sand

Half of which is covered with asphalt, covering several buried networks (PE, cast iron, steel, with diameters of up to 600mm).
